80-year-old woman rescued after getting stuck in Cape Coral canal for 9 hours

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – An 80-year-old woman was rescued from a Cape Coral canal Tuesday evening after she said she went in around 11 a.m. to get her dog.

Rescue crews responded to the canal behind a home on Archer Parkway E around 8 p.m., according to the Cape Coral Fire Department.

The woman told responders she went into the canal to get her dog around 11 a.m. and was unable to get out.

The elderly woman had been in the canal for around nine hours Tuesday, according to her statement.

Firefighters were able to safely rescue the woman from the canal and she was taken to the hospital for treatment.
