Driver dies from injuries after San Carlos Park crash

SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla. – The 72-year-old man injured after crashing his Tesla into a light pole in San Carlos Park has died.

Florida Highway Patrol said the man was in critical condition after the crash but died Wednesday.

The crash happened on June 16 near the intersection of US 41 and Elwood Road, troopers said. The man was driving north on US 41 around 8 a.m. at a high speed when he ran off the roadway and crashed into a light pole and ditch.

The Tesla then rolled over several times before crashing into a tree and coming to rest in an upright position, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation, FHP said.
