Fort Myers Beach fire chief resigns after 5 years with the department
FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. – Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief Matthew Love resigned from the department on Friday.
The Fort Myers Beach Fire Department said over the last few months, the chief has discussed potential resigning with the Board of Fire Commissioners.
Chief Love notified the board Friday that he wanted them to start looking for his replacement. The department said that over the next several months, Chief Love will help the board with selecting, recruiting, and training his successor, prior to his official departure.
The chief has served with FMBFD since 2016 and enabled the team to accomplish almost every strategic goal by the district during that time, fire officials said.
“While we at the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department are sad to see Chief Love transition away from our organization, we join our community in thanking him for his years of dedicated service and wish him the very best in his future endeavors,” the department said in a statement.
FMBFD did not say why the chief was resigning.
