How to help keep local beaches clean after the holiday weekend

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA – With thousands of fireworks set to shoot off this weekend, things could get messy, so one local organization is already making plans to keep our beaches clean.

About 600-700 pounds of trash is expected to be leftover from the holiday celebrations on Fort Myers Beach alone.

Keep Lee County Beautiful is hosting beach cleanups on Bunche Beach, off of the Sanibel Causeway and on Fort Myers Beach on Monday morning.

Between the three clean-up sites, the organization said it plans to pick up hundreds of pounds of trash.

You can help by joining the volunteers who will be helping with the cleanup effort.

If you want to pick up trash on other beaches in Lee County that aren’t on Monday’s list of locations, you can still participate. All you have to do is download the Clean Swell app, log the amount of trash you’ve picked up, and Keep Lee County Beautiful will add that number to its total count.
