Lee County Schools to hire 100+ drivers

LEE COUNTY, Fla.– The Lee County School District says it needs to hire over 100 bus drivers for the upcoming school year.

Officials say they’re struggling to find safe drivers with nearly 700 bus routes to staff.

“We are in desperate need. We are about 108 drivers short right now and that’s the number I would feel comfortable with getting things done,” said Roger Lloyd, LCSD Director of Transportation.

Lloyd explains without more drivers buses will run late, plus students will sit longer while they wait.

“That’s the big thing. We definitely do not want kids missing instructional time,” said Lloyd.

The district is now offering full-time benefits for new hires. The incentive is to encourage applicants to consider LCSD for employment.

The package includes a $16.32 hourly pay rate, health insurance, life insurance, and retirement benefits.

“This is really a unique opportunity for those people that are looking for work. We’ve got more than enough available,” said Lloyd.

Those interested in applying can find more information on the district’s website.
