Lightning strikes twice as Tampa Bay secures back-to-back Stanley Cup wins

TAMPA, Fla. / NHL — The Tampa Bay Lightning are back-to-back Stanley Cup champions after Wednesday night’s 1-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

The Bolts pulled off an electric win at home in Amalie Arena in front of thousands of fans, something that wasn’t possible during their 2020 Stanley Cup Final win due to the coronavirus.

Although the Canadiens put 22 shots on goal, all were stopped by Tampa’s Andrei Vasilevskiy. It was his fifth shutout of the 2021 Playoffs.

Vasilevskiy won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the entire postseason. He was certainly at his best in the Stanley Cup Final, only allowing the Canadiens to score eight goals in five games.
