Man flown to hospital after boat crash off Sanibel Island
SANIBEL, Fla. – A man was injured after a boat crash west of Sanibel Island on Thursday.
The Coast Guard confirmed a helicopter air crew medevaced an 83-year-old man after two boats crashed just 30 miles west of the island.
Coast Guard crews said the man was taken Tampa General Hospital with a leg injury and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services.
Officials with the Coast Guard said reports of a boat crash were received at around 6:30 p.m. from a good samaritan, who also said one of the boats involved was inoperable near Sanibel Island.
Commercial Salvage crews towed the inoperable boat ashore, and the other was escorted back to shore, crews said.
