‘Morning Mom’ makes breakfast with love at Naples youth shelter

NAPLES, Fla. – Before the sun rises, Terri Robert’s cooking begins. Affectionately known as the “Morning Mom”, Terri prepares breakfast each morning at the Youth Haven youth shelter in Naples. 

“There’s a difference between someone that’s just preparing food and someone who really cares,” Terri said.

And she is one of the people who cares. A former resort conference services and catering director, Terri moved to Florida with her husband several years ago. She quickly became known for her warm personality and kind heart after taking the morning cooking job at Youth Haven. 

A community for those who have been neglected, abused, or abandoned, Youth Haven houses dozens of kids and teens. 

“It’s the simple things that matter and the consistency of those simple things and that’s what makes a difference,” Terri said of why her cooking resonated with those who live at the shelter. 

Most of the kids Terri cooks for are elementary school age. Some of them have never had a hearty breakfast before in their lives. 

“They know that I’m here [and] they know they’re important,” Terri said.
