Naples man to spend 18 months in prison for investment scam
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A former Naples resident has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his role in an investment scam, officials said.
Richard Leli is was offering investments in his Naples-based company, SW Florida’s Finest Tire and Auto, LLC, and didn’t follow through with promised returns.
Leli convinced his victims to invest by persuading them that their money would supply the company with enough funds to lease a business space and purchase necessary machinery. However, an investigation found that the company was already up and running and that most of the money was used for Leli’s personal living expenses, according to a news release from the Office of Financial Regulation.
Courts ruled that Leli needed to pay $30,000 to a victim and an additional $9,500 in restitution. He was also ordered to pay additional fees, including court costs and costs of prosecution.
The case was investigated by the OFR with help from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
