Pope Francis in Rome hosptial for scheduled surgery
VATICAN CITY / AP — The Vatican announced that Pope Francis has gone to a Rome hospital for scheduled intestinal surgery.
The announcement made on Sunday afternoon didn’t mention when the surgery would be performed, but said there would be an announcement when the surgery is complete, Vatican officials said.
Pope Francis will be undergoing surgery for a stenosis, or restriction, of the large intestine, officials said.
Just hours ahead of the announcement, Francis was seen greeting the public in St. Peter’s Square in keeping with a Sunday tradition and told them he will go to Hungary and Slovakia in September.
