Alligator pays Bonita Springs firefighters a visit

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – A rogue reptile stopped by Bonita Springs Fire Station 26 on Wednesday. “This charming fellow took a little tour of the firefighters’ bay and liked it so much he thought he’d stay awhile,” Bonita Springs Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post. After a call to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission [FWC], the firefighters were able to “gently encourage” the gator to return to the preserve across the steet. “See you later, alligator…,” the post read. Gator in Iowa? Not so fast, animal rescue says

DES MOINES, Iowa [CNN] – An animal rescue received a call about a 4-to-5-foot alligator resting in a parking lot – in Iowa. Residents of a Des Moines apartment complex were startled when they saw the would-be reptile lounging out in the open and immediately called the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. While ARL has gotten calls to rescue alligators within city limits before, “we have never had a call quite like this,” the organization said in a news release on Tuesday. ARL officers even called the Monday call “a little extra wild.” “While their fear was real, the alligator, it...

Gator goes for a swim in Clewiston pool

HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. – This little alligator had the right idea for a Friday — take a dip in some cool water! Unfortunately, he messed with the wrong chill zone, jumping into a Clewiston pool — where humans, not gators, swim. Good for the homeowner, Hendry County Lieutenant Matt Beatty was able to capture the little guy safely and release it back into Lake Okeechobee. As a reminder to all Floridians, always make sure you check for animals, or gators, before jumping in your pool. The post Gator goes for a swim in Clewiston pool appeared first on NBC2 News. Young gator found floating in Naples pool

NAPLES, Fla. — It’s alligator mating season, so the reptiles are expected to be venturing out further than normal. On Thursday, an NBC2 viewer sent in a photo they took of a young gator floating around the pool at Riverside Naples. If you come across a gator in your pool, call Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s toll-free Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286). An alligator is considered a nuisance if it is at least 4 feet long and the caller believes it poses a threat to people, pets or property. There are situations when smaller alligators...
