Pedestrian hit & killed by car on US 41 in Lee County

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car on US 41 and Jamaica Bay Boulevard in Fort Myers Monday evening. Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene to investigate the crash. The inside and middle lanes were blocked southbound on US 41. Troopers said the crash remains under investigation. Teen tased by FHP trooper won’t be charged

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The teenager tased by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper will not be charged. The State Attorney’s Office confirmed they will not file charges against Jack Rodeman, 16, after he was arrested in June after being tased by the trooper.  According to the teen’s mother Kris, her son was walking to his girlfriend’s house in the Timberlake community near Three Oaks Parkway in Fort Myers, when a trooper started following him. Fort Myers driver slams into FHP patrol car in Lee County

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A 23-year-old Fort Myers man crashed into a Florida Highway Patrol SUV that was stopped at a red light Wednesday afternoon, according to FHP. Troopers said the Fort Myers man was driving a sedan around 3 p.m. when he tried to make a right turn at the intersection of US 41 and Palm Pointe. Troopers respond to I-75 road rage shooting in North Port

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to a shooting on I-75 near Sumter Boulevard in North Port Friday afternoon. FHP said the shooting happened during a road rage incident at around 3 p.m. Troopers confirmed the drivers of a Dodge Ram truck and a Ford F-150 truck were involved in the incident with another car. HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. – A Hendry County deputy and another driver were injured in a crash on SR 29 and Park Avenue on Thursday. Officials say speeding in Florida is at an all-time high

FORT MYERS, Fla.– The need for speed is putting lives at risk. According to Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, drivers speeding 50 or more miles per hour over the speed limit is at an all-time high.  In May 2021, troopers ticketed 138 drivers. Previously, in May 2020, that number was 196. Twenty-nine of the 138 in May 2021 come from Southwest Florida. FHP Lt. Driver dies from injuries after San Carlos Park crash

SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla. – The 72-year-old man injured after crashing his Tesla into a light pole in San Carlos Park has died. Florida Highway Patrol said the man was in critical condition after the crash but died Wednesday. The crash happened on June 16 near the intersection of US 41 and Elwood Road, troopers said. The man was driving north on US 41 around 8 a.m. at a high speed when he ran off the roadway and crashed into a light pole and ditch.
