Fire leaves Port Charlotte family without home, six cats dead

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – A fire left a Port Charlotte family of five without a home Saturday morning. Charlotte County Fire and EMS said the fire was reported in the 21000 block of Midway Boulevard between US 41 and Lakeview. Crews said the family evacuated the home before firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters said they were able to get the fire under control, but the fire did heavy damage to the home and things inside. One child was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Fireball erupting from Gulf of Mexico caused by rupture in underwater gas pipeline

MEXICO CITY / AP — Mexico’s state-owned oil company suffered a rupture in an underwater gas pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico, sending flames boiling up to the surface, officials said. Fire control boats were sent to the site to pump water over the flames, Petroleos Mexicanos said. The company, also referred to as Pemex, said nobody was injured in the incident in the offshore Ku-Maloob-Zaap field. The leak happened early Friday morning about 150 yards from a drilling platform.
