COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Red tide is present in Collier County waters and dead fish are starting to wash up onshore.
The latest red tide map from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission shows a high concentration of Karenia brevis, the organism that causes red tide, near Vanderbilt Beach.
If you have beach plans, be aware that the high concentration of red tide can irritate your throat and even make you cough. Also, avoid swimming in areas where you see dead fish.
