JACKSONVILLE, Fla.– A male Western Lowland Gorilla was born at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens on Friday morning.
The baby was born to 24-year-old mother Madini and 44-year-old father Lash. He is the fifth gorilla born at the Jacksonville zoo.
Madini and Lash are part of the breeding program, Gorilla Species Survival Plan (SSP).
“We have many reasons to celebrate this new infant. He will further enrich the social environment and experience of his amazing group and strengthen the sustainability of the Gorilla SSP, ” said Tracy Fenn, Assistant Curator of Mammals.
