Fort Myers Beach fire chief resigns after 5 years with the department

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. – Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief Matthew Love resigned from the department on Friday. The Fort Myers Beach Fire Department said over the last few months, the chief has discussed potential resigning with the Board of Fire Commissioners. Chief Love notified the board Friday that he wanted them to start looking for his replacement. Pedestrian hit & killed by car on US 41 in Lee County

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car on US 41 and Jamaica Bay Boulevard in Fort Myers Monday evening. Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene to investigate the crash. The inside and middle lanes were blocked southbound on US 41. Troopers said the crash remains under investigation. Woman severely injured at Fort Myers Beach after being struck by boat propeller

FORT MYERS, Fla.– What started as another day on the boat, ended with a woman in the hospital being treated for serious injuries According to Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation, 6 adults were on a boat along Fort Myers Beach when a woman fell into the water from the bow. Forecast: Staying hot with a few afternoon storms

The above-average summer heat continues today with highs on track to reach the mid-90s and “feels-like” temps in the triple digits. Higher than normal temperatures continue for the next few days as high pressure settles overhead. High pressure continues to settle over the area, bringing with it some unseasonably dry air in the mid-levels. This dry air won’t translate to lower humidity at the surface, but it will drop rain chances at least through the end of the week. Limited rain coverage will allow temperatures to soar above normal with most areas topping out in the mid 90s. Naples man to spend 18 months in prison for investment scam

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A former Naples resident has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his role in an investment scam, officials said. Richard Leli is was offering investments in his Naples-based company, SW Florida’s Finest Tire and Auto, LLC, and didn’t follow through with promised returns. Leli convinced his victims to invest by persuading them that their money would supply the company with enough funds to lease a business space and purchase necessary machinery. Good Samaritan rescues teens from Caloosahatchee River near Midpoint Bridge

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A good samaritan helped rescue multiple teens from the Caloosahatchee River near the Midpoint Bridge Thursday evening. The Fort Myers Police Department responded to the area. Officers said one of the teens swam back while the others were stuck on a support beam. The teen made it to shore and ran to get help from a Fort Myers resident. Some local Catholic schools to require masks for upcoming school year

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – The Diocese of Venice will require masks inside Catholic schools within counties with a 10 percent positivity rate. A letter from the Diocese of Venice Bishop Frank Dewane was sent Thursday evening announcing the plan for the coming school year. The Diocese said masks will be required temporarily while indoors at Catholic schools in a county with a 10 percent positivity rate or greater.
