Lee commissioners contract two companies for flooding mitigation projects

SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla. – The Lee Board of County Commissioners contracted two companies to work on flooding mitigation projects.  The county started to form a 3-phase plan to fix this problem after significant flooding in August 2017 followed by Hurricane Irma that September. The first part of the plan involved the removal of blockages in canals, including several large toppled trees, that could cause further flooding.  The second phase included flooding assessments, and the areas were studied to uncover what caused localized flooding.  The mitigation is in the third...

CAPE CORAL, Fla.– With COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations increasing, health professionals want to make sure people are educated about the safety of vaccines instead of misinformation.  The New York Times recently published an article showing nearly two-thirds of all vaccine disinformation comes from 12 people. A study by the Center for Countering Digital Hate calls them the Disinformation Dozen. At the top of the list is Cape Coral-based Dr. Joseph Mercola. Officials say they’re struggling to find safe drivers with nearly 700 bus routes to staff. “We are in desperate need. We are about 108 drivers short right now and that’s the number I would feel comfortable with getting things done,” said Roger Lloyd, LCSD Director of Transportation. Forecast: Warm, muggy, & dry tonight

Any showers and storms will wrap up after dark before we repeat the pattern again on Monday. An east wind, thanks to a persistent Bermuda high, will keep showers and storms focused at the coast for the start of the week. Slightly weaker east flow will allow the sea breeze to develop during the afternoon Monday, possibly lending to more storms at the immediate coast. Either way, no sensible changes are expected in the pattern through Thursday. By late week models hint at some drier air working over the state again which may briefly lower rain chances for Friday into next weekend. The...
