Police search for Marco Island credit card thieves

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. – Police are searching for two suspects accused of stealing credit cards and using them to buy gift cards at a grocery store. The suspects took credit cards from a purse at SunTrust Bank Tuesday before using them to buy the gift cards at a Winn Dixie, according to the Marco Island Police Department. The two people were captured on store surveillance cameras. Marco Island Police investigate string of car thefts

MARCO ISLAND, Fla.– The Marco Island Police are investigating multiple car thefts and burglaries. Six vehicles were stolen with two of them recovered on Marco Island. Another vehicle that was stolen out of Pinellas County was also found on the island. Additionally, fourteen vehicles were burglarized. According to a statement released by Marco PD, on Sunday afternoon the department realized they were not receiving alerts from the one of their cameras. Their system was fixed on Monday morning. Strangers tried to lure children into their car, Marco Island PD investigating

MARCO ISLAND, Fla.– Marco Island Police are investigating a suspicious incident on Wednesday night around 8 pm. Three children, two sisters and a brother, were riding their bikes on San Marco road. The two little girls were asked to get in a car by two young white men in their late teens or early 20s. Both of the men had blonde hair. One was dressed in a blue shirt and the other was shirtless, according to Marco Island PD. Marco Island license plate scanners aim to increase community safety

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Marco Island police are cracking down on crime by installing license plate readers. The new crime prevention system is being used to enhance community safety, according to Marco Island Police. Marco Island is an ideal place for the scanners because drivers can only access the city through three bridges — Jolley, Minozzi and Gober. MIPD officials said that 70 percent of crimes involve a vehicle. The devices also count vehicles, so the system will be useful for planning during big events and hurricane evacuations.
