MARCO ISLAND, Fla.– A plane was caught on video getting close to the beach and buildings near Marco Island.  According to Naples Control Tower officials, planes must be 1,000 feet over structures or people in populated areas. Over the water on the other hand, there isn’t a limit. When someone breaks the rules, things are then handed over to the FAA. The plane caught on video is owned by Icon Aviation and it is also registered to the company. We reached out to them but we haven’t heard back. Marco Island Police investigate string of car thefts

MARCO ISLAND, Fla.– The Marco Island Police are investigating multiple car thefts and burglaries. Six vehicles were stolen with two of them recovered on Marco Island. Another vehicle that was stolen out of Pinellas County was also found on the island. Additionally, fourteen vehicles were burglarized. According to a statement released by Marco PD, on Sunday afternoon the department realized they were not receiving alerts from the one of their cameras. Their system was fixed on Monday morning. Marco Island preparing for Mother’s Day visitors

MARCO ISLAND, Fla.– The City of Marco Island is expecting an influx of visitors on Mother’s Day Weekend.  City Manager Mike McNees said traditionally Mother’s Day has been a busy holiday. “We certainly were overwhelmed last year on Mother’s Day more than we were expecting,” McNees said.  The city is gearing up for the crowds by adding extra patrols on the beach, streets, and on the water. This will make sure beachgoers don’t bring dogs, bikes, or glass to the beach. Marco Island beachgoers concerned after man guts shark on shoreline

Marco Island license plate scanners aim to increase community safety

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Marco Island police are cracking down on crime by installing license plate readers. The new crime prevention system is being used to enhance community safety, according to Marco Island Police. Marco Island is an ideal place for the scanners because drivers can only access the city through three bridges — Jolley, Minozzi and Gober. MIPD officials said that 70 percent of crimes involve a vehicle. The devices also count vehicles, so the system will be useful for planning during big events and hurricane evacuations. Beachgoers join in search for engagement ring lost on Marco Island

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — A memorable moment turned nightmare for a recently engaged couple visiting Marco Island.  The pair said that they nearly lost their engagement ring while taking sunset pictures on the beach. “It was just traumatic, crying trying to find it.
