ENGLEWOOD, Fla. – A Fort Myers driver nearly ran over a Charlotte County deputy before speeding into Sarasota County.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said Julian Fernandez was arrested after trying to speed away from deputies during a chase that started in Englewood.
The deputy first saw Fernandez’s car approaching a red light on South McCall Road and slam on the brakes. Charlotte County deputies said his braking caused the tires to squeal and smoke. The deputy said they got behind the car and saw it make a U-turn and run a red light without trying to stop.
