FORT MYERS, Fla.– Governor DeSantis issued an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency in response to Tropical Depression Fred. The State of Emergency was issued to Bay, Calhoun, Citrus, Dixie, Escambia, Franklin, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Manatee, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Taylor, Wakulla, Walton, and Washington counties. Southwest Florida was not included in the order. Lee County declares state of emergency ahead of Tropical Storm Elsa

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Lee County officials declared a state of emergency Tuesday afternoon as Tropical Storm Elsa makes its way along the coast. Lee County Commission Chairman Kevin Ruane made the announcement in a press conference around 3 p.m. Officials said the state of emergency will last a maximum of one week and make federal funding available that would allow FEMA to pay for potential damage from Elsa. Charlotte County declares local state of emergency ahead of Elsa

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Charlotte County leaders declared a local state of emergency ahead of Tropical Storm Elsa. County leaders passed the declaration unanimously. They will not be issuing orders on storm shelters yet, however, there are two shelters on standby if they need to open. Elsa, a strong tropical storm, was nearing landfall in Cuba as of the 8 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center.
