CHARLESTON, South Carolina — A Coast Guard Air Station crew rescued five people on Wednesday who were stranded on Otter Island. Their boat drifted off the beach from bad weather during Tropical Storm Elsa. Thieves steal GPS systems from boats during Elsa chaos

SOUTHWEST Fla.– As Tropical Storm Elsa barreled towards Southwest Florida, thieves were on the prowl stealing 25 Garmin GPS systems from boats at the Viage Group Marina on Monday night.  Deputies say when the workers arrived to work on Tuesday morning, they saw some of the boats were not secured. 27 rescued from waters near Key West as Tropical Storm Elsa passed by

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. — Nine people are missing in the waters south of Key West after Tropical Storm Elsa passed by on Tuesday, officials said. At least 15 people were rescued on Tuesday, the United States Coast Guard announced in a tweet. Boaters pulled two people from the waters about 23 miles off the coast of Key West around 4 p.m. and alerted the Coast Guard, officials said. LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Lee County officials declared a state of emergency Tuesday afternoon as Tropical Storm Elsa makes its way along the coast. Lee County statement on bridge closures during Tropical Storm Elsa

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – As Tropical Storm Elsa nears Southwest Florida, Lee County released a statement on its plan for local bridges. Lee County said it “cannot literally ‘close’ bridges during tropical storms or hurricanes.” Barricades, gates or signs can become hazardous and ineffective because they can easily blow away.
