Thieves steal Mango tree from Cape Coral woman’s yard

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – In the middle of Mango Season, it’s not uncommon for a few mangoes to go missing from homeowners’ trees, but Mango kleptomaniacs in Cape Coral have taken it to a new level, by taking a woman’s entire tree!

Bright and early outside Mary-Ann Schwartz’s house on Monday morning was a special delivery. After someone stole the Mango tree right out of the ground on her front lawn, Mary Ann and her daughter were worried they’d never get it back.

“I have a little girl with Downs Syndrome, and I have a hard time sometimes keeping up with the Lawn stuff,” Schwartz said.

But her story found its way to Michelle Loch and inspired her to act.

“I was actually heartbroken when someone stole her tree. I just couldn’t believe it. So I instantly tried to find her and replace it, because that’s just heart-wrenching,” Loch said.

Sure enough on Monday, Loch came prepared with a new exotic Mango to plant for Schwartz.

“It’s actually an 0-15, supposed to have a grape taste, with a little bit of coconut, not a lot of fiber, real juicy,” Loch added.

Loch said it might be a few years before it grows any fruit, but for Mary Ann, it’s well worth the wait.

“It will be nice to taste a different type of Mango, So that kindness can be recognized, as it should be,” Mary Ann said.
