Viewer question: How does Elsa compare to Irma?

Click HERE for the latest on Tropical Storm Elsa.

An NBC2 viewer wanted to know how Tropical Storm Elsa compares to Hurricane Irma, and other major storms.

As Meteorologist Rob Duns explains, it’s all about feet.

Hurricane Irma had a very large footprint, about 400 miles wide.

Tropical Storm Elsa covers a fraction of that, at about 70 miles across. Hence, the “small feet.”

Hurricane Irma made landfall in Florida on September 10, 2017, with catastrophic impacts across Southwest Florida.

Tropical Storm Elsa will be nothing like that, though you should always be prepared for any tropical activity.
